The Toe Kick
Always Start From the Stance
The toe kick is a very vital kick indeed. It is good to work on this
one as you will use it often. There are many variations of the toe kick and
they are all beautiful to use and observe. Within these variations of the
extended toe kick lives much of your sensitivity. This sensitivity is on the
same plane as that of the index finger. A delicate touch...to a vast universe.
The toe kick is a fully extended upward thrust of the kicking leg. In
order to execute this kick you transfer your weight to your support leg...again
the support leg is bent at the knee for balance. (Illustration O). Your upper
body leans away from the kick and your kicking leg is lifted in a fully extended
form and thrust out and up to the meeting of the footbag. The footbag's impact
point is out on the toe of the shoe. (Illustration P).

The toe kick is a very precisely executed movement and it will be awhile
before you master it. As your sensitivity increases so will the quality of your
kicks. Eventually you will feel as if you have another set of fingers on your
toes. A fine feeling to experience. In your journey to this consciousness your
feet and legs will become a very important part of your body.
There is another variation of the toe kick that I use quite frequently.
It is kicked quite close to your body. (Illustration Q). This kick can be
alternated from toe to toe in a very graceful manner. Between the two toe
variations you have gracefulness and beauty enough to enhance any routine.

As you become proficient with these kicks you will be able to catch the
footbag on your toe as if holding it in the palm of your hand. (Illustration R).
A real accomplishment and something to work for.
